Editions
One platform, tuned four ways
Akkad comes in four editions. It would be tidy marketing to present them as four products, but that is not what they are: they are one platform, one codebase and one backend, separated by a library of data in one case and a handful of defaults in the others. Inventory is the flagship and carries everything. This page is about the small, real differences — and about how much is identical.
The reason to have editions at all is that a pharmacist and a restaurant owner do not want the same first screen. A pharmacy needs dosage and active ingredient on an item and a drug catalogue to start from. A restaurant needs tables and rounds, and does not want to be asked how many units of a dish are in stock. A supermarket sells at a counter and the sale is finished when the customer walks out; there is nothing to ship.
None of that requires a different product. It requires different data, a few different defaults, and a small number of screens that appear or do not. So that is what the editions are. The catalogue, stock ledger, order book, pricing engine, shipping rules, courier integrations, money layer, reports, permissions, offline behaviour and printing are the same in all four — because they are the same code, running against the same backend.
Practically: pick the edition that matches what you sell. If none of them obviously matches, pick inventory. It is the flagship, it carries every feature, and nothing about the other three is a capability it lacks.
01
The four editions
Each edition is its own app on every platform, with its own address and its own colour. What differs is listed in full — there is nothing else.
| Edition | Admin app | What is different |
|---|---|---|
| Inventory | inventory.akkad.io | The flagship. Everything the platform does, with nothing hidden — including instalments, the cities report and Meta catalog sync. |
| Pharmacy | pharmacy.akkad.io | Adds the medicine library, plus dosage and active-ingredient fields on items. Keeps the cities report. |
| Restaurant | restaurant.akkad.io | Adds dine-in tables, rounds, kitchen station printers and service types. Stock counting is off by default for dishes, expiry is hidden, and there is no cities report. |
| Supermarket | supermarket.akkad.io | Orders complete on creation, because a counter sale is finished when it is made. No cities report. |
All four are also available as native apps on Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and Linux. Whichever edition you use, you sign in to your own business and see your own records.
Inventory is the flagship, and that is not a hierarchy of quality
Pharmacy, restaurant and supermarket are not cut-down versions. They carry the same catalogue, the same pricing engine, the same nine reports and the same online store. They differ where a difference is genuinely useful and are identical everywhere else — which is why a feature shipped for one of them arrives in the others at the same time.
02
What the pharmacy edition adds
Pharmacy is the edition with the largest genuine difference, and almost all of it is one thing: a drug catalogue you start from instead of a blank item form.
18,669 medicines, bilingual
A shared reference catalogue readable by every pharmacy on Akkad, with an English and an Arabic name on every row. Search either language, or a fragment of a barcode, or scan the box straight in.
One search becomes a complete item
The library's columns map directly onto item fields, so importing a medicine creates the item and its pack sizes — the strip and the box — with both barcodes already attached. The pack model does the rest: one stock pool, sold at either granularity.
Already-in-your-inventory marking
Every result is stamped if your business already stocks it, matched by catalogue link or by either barcode, so you do not import something twice and meet a duplicate-barcode error. Your business is derived from your session, never from the request, so the marking cannot be used to inspect anyone else's shelves.
Dosage and active ingredient
Two extra item fields, present on the item form, in the spreadsheet import columns, and carried through from the library. They are ordinary catalogue fields, so search, export and reports treat them like everything else.
Batch tracking and expiry are frequently assumed to be a pharmacy feature. They are not — lot tracking, first-expiry-first deduction, per-lot cost and the expiry report are part of the platform and available in inventory and supermarket too. Any business that buys the same product at different prices on different dates benefits from them. Pharmacy simply happens to be where they are least optional.
03
What the restaurant edition changes
Restaurant is the edition with the most added screens, because table service is a genuinely different shape of order: it opens, grows, and settles later.
Tables and a floor view
Tables carry a name, an optional area that groups them, and a sort order that treats digit runs as numbers, so A1, A2 and A10 land in that order. The list returns every table with its currently open order, so occupancy shows the order number, total, guest count, how long the party has been seated, who opened it and how many rounds have gone in.
Rounds
A second round is appended to the open order rather than resubmitted as a whole, which is why it is safe to retry from a queue that flushed twice. The server allocates the round number under a lock, so two waiters sending at once cannot produce two round threes. Each line can carry its own kitchen note.
Kitchen station printers
Named network printers mapped to sets of categories: the grill ticket goes to the grill. A fallback station catches any category not assigned anywhere, so a line is never silently dropped, and each station can optionally list the rest of the round for context.
Service types
Dine-in, takeaway and delivery, filterable in the order list. The app is told which types your business actually uses and renders only those, so a delivery-only kitchen never sees a table picker.
Dishes are not counted by default
Stock management is off by default for new items, because a kitchen does not usually track portions of a dish. It is a per-item setting, so the few things you do count — bottled drinks, packaged goods — can be counted normally.
Expiry is hidden
The expiry surfaces are not shown in the restaurant edition. This is presentation, not capability: the underlying batch model is the same one every other edition uses.
04
The supermarket edition
Supermarket is the smallest difference of the four, and it is a default rather than a feature. Orders complete on creation, in every channel, because a supermarket sale is finished at the moment it is made — there is no processing queue, no dispatch and no delivery step to move through. The cities report is switched off for the same reason: a counter sale has no recipient city to group by.
Everything else is the full platform. Pack sizes for the case and the single, batch tracking and expiry for perishables, discount ladders across categories, the counter with pinned tiles and hardware scanning, offline selling, the drawer and cashbox, and the online store if you want one.
05
What is identical in all four
This is the longer list, and it is the point of the page. None of the following differs by edition.
The catalogue and stock ledger
Three item types, variants and attributes, pack sizes, batch tracking with first-expiry-first deduction and per-lot cost, categories, suppliers, purchase orders, spreadsheet import and export, and the item audit trail.
Selling and pricing
The order book and its six statuses, the counter and its scan modes, pricing rules and promo codes, the online store with its five templates, landing pages, and online payments where the plan covers them.
Fulfilment and money
Shipping rules including per-city pricing, all seven courier integrations, the debts ledger, instalments, the drawer, the annual cashbox, expenses and incomes.
Reports, team and platform
The reports each edition is applicable for, 39 permission grants and the four visibility restrictions, offline selling, printing, notifications, six platform targets and 13 in-app languages.

Questions
I run a shop that does not fit any of these. Which do I pick?
Inventory. It is the flagship and carries every feature; the other three add or hide a small amount on top of it. Nothing in pharmacy, restaurant or supermarket is a capability inventory lacks, apart from the pharmacy medicine library and the restaurant table screens.
Can I run more than one edition?
Each edition is a separate app you sign in to with your own account. If you genuinely run two different kinds of business, they are separate businesses in Akkad — records belong to one organisation, and nothing crosses between them.
Does a restaurant have to use tables?
No. Service types tell the app which shapes of order you actually use, and a takeaway or delivery kitchen simply never sees the table screens. A restaurant can also isolate dine-in entirely from its normal order lists.
Is the pharmacy medicine library editable, and can another pharmacy see my catalogue?
The library is a shared reference catalogue that everyone reads and nobody writes to, so no business can alter what another sees. Importing from it creates items in your own catalogue, which are yours alone.
If I use restaurant, do I lose batch and expiry tracking?
The expiry surfaces are hidden in the restaurant edition, but the batch model underneath is the platform's, unchanged. This is a decision about what is worth showing a kitchen, not a removal.
Do the four editions cost different amounts?
The plan ladder is shared. The website and landing-page allowances in particular are a placeholder shared across all four editions while per-edition pricing is settled, so treat those two numbers as provisional.
